Weather & Emergency Alerts
In the event of adverse weather or emergency situations that require school late starts, early dismissals, or cancellations, the Pleasantville School District will send immediate notice to parents and families. As inclement weather season approaches I would like to assure our parents and patrons that at all times, the safety of students and staff is the underlying basis for determining when to cancel school, start late, or send school buses home early. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding when school delays and cancellations occur.
PCSD Family and Staff Guidance on Winter Weather Conditions
The safety and well-being of students and staff is our top priority and the decision to close, delay or release school early is a difficult decision. Before deciding to modify the school day due to extreme weather conditions, the Superintendent consults with a variety of local and county authorities. Our commitment is to keep students and staff safe, as well as keep the community and staff informed of weather-related school delays and/or cancellations in a timely manner.
When a decision is made to modify the school day due to weather conditions, the decision and information will be communicated as quickly and efficiently as possible. If the decision is made to cancel school or delay the start of school, our goal is to have the decision made and communicated no later than 6:00 am. If the decision is made to dismiss school early, our goal is to have the decision made and communicated no later than noon. If no announcements are made, it should be assumed that school will be in session as normal.
A reminder that Pleasantville Community School District utilizes the “JMC Messenger” system as the primary method to send weather and emergency notices to families and school staff. JMC Messenger provides Pleasantville Schools the capability to call and send text and voice messages directly to cell and home phones in the event of adverse weather or emergency situations that require school late starts, early dismissals, or cancellations. A letter explaining how families can manage their JMC Messenger preferences and set up their JMC Messenger account can be found at this link: https://bit.ly/3mjv5QG
In addition to "JMC Messenger" alerts, the district will also post weather and emergency notices to the district website (www.pvillecsd.org) and send to following stations and via the following avenues:
- KNIA/KRLS Radio
- WHO TV
- KCCI TV
- WOI TV
- School District Facebook Account (https://www.facebook.com/pvillecsd)
- School District Twitter Feed (@PvilleCSD)

- At this time, Pleasantville Schools is not planning to require students and staff to participate in virtual learning activities during weather-related school cancellations. However, virtual learning has been approved by the state as a viable option and virtual learning may be considered in the future depending on the number of school days missed.
- A family’s decision regarding weather conditions and safety will be honored at all times. When a family decides weather conditions are such that their child shall not go to school for the day or period of time, the parent / guardian should contact the student’s school office and that absence will be marked as excused for that period of time missed.
